Celebrations of St Philip's Birthday in Florence

Fr Daniel, Fr Nicholas, Br Oliver and Br Adam, together with some of our parishioners, braved the extreme heat in Florence to celebrate the five-hundredth anniversary of the birth of our Holy Father St Philip.

On 20th July there were talks and Eucharistic adoration at the Church of San Firenze, the seat of the Oratory in Florence.

Mass was celebrated at the Oratory by Bishop Cerrato, together with Bishop Robert Byrne and Oratorians from around the world:

On the evening of the 20th there was a vigil of prayer in the famous baptistery of the Duomo, where St Philip was baptized, followed by a procession to San Marco, the Dominican house where Philip said that he learned "everything that is good in me" as a boy.

On 21st July, His Eminence Giuseppe Cardinal Betori, Archbishop of Florence, celebrated a Solemn Mass in the Cathedral, at which a Plenary Indulgence and Papal blessing was given:
